Sanjay Majhu

Bombay Talkie

Sanjay's passion for music is well known amongst all his friends and colleagues. Introduced into the world of musical performance at an early age by his mother, Sanjay was regularly to be found at the Old Arts Centre in Washington Street in Glasgow. There he would either be dancing with the Bhangra Team, or playing the dholak drum as an accompaniment.

A few years later, he and Charan Gill, fronted Scotland's best known Bhangra band: Bombay Talkie. With the hugely successful Bhangra hit "Charrgiye" featuring Sanjay's lead vocals, the band Bombay Talkie attained a brief cult status in 1993 with the album Judgement Day topping charts in California, Sydney, and Birmingham. Radio interviews and several TV appearances ensued, including a BBC Documentary called "The Spice Boys", as well as a 6 gig tour of Malaysia and an appearance at the T in the Park. The second album 'Feem' was released in 1995.

More recently he has been seen singing Beatles numbers alongside John Beattie.

Currently Sanjay is colluding with his long time hero Deepak Khazanchi, a producer-guitarist who had a string of massive Bhangra hits in the eighties. The rumour is that there is a 3rd Bombay Talkie album in the pipeline.
